Created Drupal Testbed Site

Posted December 20th, 2009 in Drupal, Updates by Wes Wise

I have created a Drupal 6 test site on my server. This test site is to be used to try out new modules that I have discovered and to provide a demo site for anonymous users to tinker in.

The test site can be accessed here or through my portfolio.

More modules and info to come.

Also look forward to a Drupal 7 test site.

Updated Blog Theme, Again…

Posted November 12th, 2009 in Updates by Wes Wise

As a way of showing my support for all of the insightful and useful information that Smashing Magazine provides, I have decided to update my Wordpress theme and use one of their freely-distributed designs. The theme of choice is Glassical, a vibrant theme that reminds me a lot of Twitter. Of course, I did make modifications to the Glassical theme such as CSS changes, image modifications, and template customization. More information about the Glassical theme (and many others) at Smashing Magazine.

Upcoming Topics

The following is a list of upcoming topics that I am working on, which is requiring some research on my part.

Possible topics include:

  • Blender 3D 2.5 UI changes vs previous versions of Blender such as 2.49
  • Wordpress Theme creation case study
  • Comparison of open-source Content Management Systems: Drupal, Wordpress (with plugins), Alfresco, Frog CMS, Joomla, Silverstripe, Concrete5

So far, I’ve created some content for the Blender 2.5 Vs. Blender 2.49, and have the above CMSs installed and running. The Wordpress theme is a topic that I’ve been going back and forth on. I thoroughly enjoy the themes that Smashing Magazine releases. But if time permits, I’d like to create my own.

Personal Site Has New Theme

So, I updated the theme for the site once again. I’m pleased with it so far and plan to stick with it for quite some time. Additional news include that I am setting up a working implementation of the imagecache+views+taxonomy within my Drupal installation. This can be used for both testing out how the photo gallery implementation works in addition to storing personal files.

Wordpress is Up and Running

I have decided to use Wordpress for blogging instead of Drupal’s built-in blog mechanism. Wordpress gives more flexibility.
